Short: Provides access to and searching of all your AmigaGuides.
Author: Steve@hargreavess.freeserve.co.uk (Steve Hargreaves)
Uploader: Steve@hargreavess.freeserve.co.uk (Steve Hargreaves)
Version: 2.0
Type: util/wb
Requires: AmigaDOS sort and list commands in c: OS2.04 or higher.
Version 2.0 is the Deluxe version. If you've seen version 1.0, whether you liked it or not, I urge you
try this. It's had a complete re-write and facelift. Gone is the ugly amigaguide index, in comes the
all singing, all dancing GUI, now with progressive searching facilities.
When you've had an Amiga for a while, and you've installed software all over the place, despite your
best efforts, you finish up with AmigaGuide documents and ReadMe files scattered across your hard
drive(s). Now this is fine, until you come to want a specific guide, or aren't sure exactly which
guide you are looking for. Wouldn't it be nice to have all your AmigaGuides and ReadMe's available
from a single hotkey. That's where GHelp comes in.
Quite simply, GHelp consists of three programs that work together as a package.
GHelpGen searches your hard drives (the exact search paths are configurable) and creates an index.
GHelp is a small commodity that sits in the background waiting for you to press your (user definable)
hotkey combination before launching GHelpGUI.
GHelpGUI is where the good stuff is done. From here, you can view a list of all your AmigaGuide
documents, open them, search them for keywords, and progressively narrow your search down, delete unwanted
AmigaGuides, or re-generate the index based on your own criteria.
As far as I know, there's nothing quite like it for Amiga, and it certainly makes finding help on your
own hard drives(s) a lot easier.
Full AmigaGuide documentation is included.
As a side effect, if you use a util like IDer, then GHelp can be used (after being properly configured
- easily through a simple tooltype) to index and view just about any filetype on your system.
